INABILITY TO TACKLE CORRUPTION HINDERING KENYA'S ECONOMY
By Adon Kelly
Corruption is the usage of public fund or resources in a manner that one cannot be at a position to explain. It is the embezzlement of public resources by individual(s).
In Kenya, corruption has been a major challenge. It has hindered the growth of the country's economy. For instance in the past few years when President Uhuru Kenyatta took office and after selecting his cabinet, Ann Waiguru had got a lot of corruption scandals related to NYS. Imagine buying a wheelbarrow at almost half a million? A pen at hundreds of thousand? Millions of money spear under the bed and pillow. The money could be used to either feed the poor or being channelled to another national development. It is even shameful for Kenyans to elect not only once but twice such leaders to the second top most elective seat in the nation. Another clear example is the former Migori governor Okoth Obado. I don't have any fear to mention that he took the county affairs as a family thing. Transacting huge amounts of county funds for personal or rather family use.
It's not only in the county governments that corruption is rampant but also in the national government. An example is the national assembly. Elected leaders being given some thousands of money to pass a budget which will in turn burden the common mwananchi. You've seen church leaders attending a service in state house and after the end of it comes out with a "brown paper"? That is corruption. One should never ask why we elect leaders to the parliaments and after five or so years, they come back with huge bodies "kitambi" as some refer them to. How can corruption end when the men in uniform are in the forefront taking money from drivers and touts on our roads? The DCI a body dealing with criminals has been submerged by the government. The EACC the body responsible for dealing with corruption has been put as a government affair. Will corruption end in Kenya? Will there be development in this nation? Kenyans must stop slumbering.
I once got a chance to visit a certain police station in the country because my relative had been arrested for breaking traffic rules. The officers insisted on us giving them "tea" as they call it. We were done with everything but they were still demanding for "tea" then we as Kenyans are waiting for developments? Where? How? It's far.
The past government has been named corrupt by the current government of UDA and i wonder since the current president was also in that government. The government according to UDA is said to have transacted lots of money within a period of less than a week. They argue that the opposition was drowned by the government and that it stopped acting as the watchdog to the government. I can slightly agree with it. But the biggest question is that what will this government offer? Will it end corruption? Keep in mind the Arror and kimwarer dams. Kenyans still have a lot to do in order to curb corruption and in return get development projects. I recently listened to a clip by a guy correcting the leaders of Kenya kwanza on their daily sentiments. He majored on Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale. It was through this that i learnt that hon. Khalwale was the m.p for Ikolomani constituency for ten years and never left any development in his constituency. He enriched himself using the Ikolomani cdf. The poor constituents were left suffering.
The poor will always make the rich more richer and they will remain poorer. Nice one
